The Harvey L. Temkin and Barbara Myers Temkin Professor in Modern Hebrew Language and Literature
This position carries responsibilities for teaching and research, with a focus on the literature of the Yishuv and the state of Israel, as well as departmental service. Appointment will be as a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in the Center for Jewish Studies with the possibility of an affiliation with a relevant department. The position begins Aug. 21, 2023.
Applicants must hold a doctorate in Hebrew literature or similar or anticipate its completion by the start of the appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Hebrew and English is required, as well as proficiency in at least one other language. The successful candidate must be capable of teaching an advanced course in Hebrew. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence and creativity in research and teaching. The successful applicant will be fully conversant with inter-disciplinary scholarship in Jewish studies and be able to situate the study of modern Hebrew literature, with a concentration on the literature of the Yishuv and the state of Israel, within broad, comparative contexts.
