Urban Social Space: Environment, Interaction and Place in Israeli Cities

This book provides an overview of Ethnic differences in coping with environmental nuisances and discusses the types of agency in the Arab minority’ segregation/integration into society. Different phases and management of the effects of exposure to environmental factors on heart rate variability are described and the relative effects of cognitive, emotional and physiological factors on human response to urban and park environments are analyzed. A global index for measuring socio-spatial segregation versus integration is also explained in detail in this book. In the analysis of places, each of the three studied locations focuses on the formation of placebased identity. The formation of Tel Aviv’s pro-globalization identity is critically described, the formation of the Neo-Zionist identity in the West Bank is critically described and the formation of a marginalized settlers identity in Gaza is critically described. This is a fairly unique book in terms of the depth and complexity with which the subject is discussed. Tables, equations, and illustrations are used to illustrate the data.
