The Ridicule and the Reproof: The Negev Bedouin’s Poetry of Protestation and Criticism is a collection of scholarly perspectives – historical, anthropological, geographical and linguistic – on the popular poetry of the Bedouin in the Negev. The collection consists of 43 poems that deal with the political situation of the Bedouin from the late 19th to the late 20th centuries. The poems, transcribed and translated, indicate that Bedouin poets reflected in their verses on the great weakness of their society and attributed it above all to their failed leadership.
