WOMEN’S ZIONISM WORLDWIDE, 1897-1948

This book offers the first wide-ranging historical study of women’s Zionism. It includes fourteen essays by an international team of nine historians and gender scholars and covers the period from the Zionist movement’s inception to the founding of Israel. The volume explores the unique ideologies, goals, developments, sources of inspiration and uncovers how women’s mode of Zionism differed from those of their men counterparts. The study’s scope is global, encompassing the Russian Empire, Galicia, Poland, Germany, Western Europe, the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, and North Africa. Additionally, it reveals the impact of women’s Zionism on the Zionist project in Palestine, Jewish communities worldwide, and the Zionist movement as a whole.
