Clay and Creation: Modern Israeli Ceramics, 1932-1979 [Hebrew]

Modern Israeli ceramics emerged at the intersection of handicrafts, craftsmanship, and art – of matter and spirit, simplicity and sophistication. The book traces its evolution from the 1930s through the late 1970s, a formative and dynamic period for ceramics in Israel during which it was heavily influenced by artistic, cultural, national, gender, and social developments.

Combining historical, sociological, and aesthetic perspectives, the book repositions ceramics as a vital part of Israeli modernism, reflecting the cultural tensions that shaped it. Like clay in the hands of a potter, the book itself becomes a medium through which the modern history of Israeli ceramics is revealed, interpreted, and reimagined.
