Jewish Film & New Media

An International Journal

Edited by Prof. Yvonne Kozlovsky Golan, Dr. Isaac (Itsik) Rosen, and Dr. Dan Chyutin

Jewish Film & New Media (Wayne State University Press) is a peer-reviewed platform for research into any aspect of the rich and diverse heritage of Jewish film, television, and new media across the globe. The journal is distinctive in bringing together a range of audiovisual texts into one scholarly space and in its positioning of discussions within various aesthetic, cultural, historical, political and social contexts.

Under the leadership of a new editorial team, we are now in the process of revitalizing journal operations and planning ahead for future volumes. In this capacity, we particularly invite the submission of special issue proposals around the journal’s main areas of interest. Jewish Film & New Media has a strong tradition of publishing thoughtful and impactful special issues on such topics as “Digital Holocaust Memory from the Margins,” “Israel on the Screen: Between Reality and Fantasy,” “Israeli Cinema and Politics,” “The Work of Stephen Dwoskin,” “Genres in Jewish and Israeli Cinema,” and “Jews Online: Exploring Digital Media Today.” Our hope is to continue relying on the depth and focus afforded by the special issue format so as to enrich the journal’s intellectual contribution while expanding its topical scope. If you wish to help in this endeavor by proposing a special issue, please send a 200-300 word abstract of the issue’s focus and aims to dchyutinfilm@gmail.com.

We also still greatly encourage scholars to submit their work outside of a special issue framework. While taking a humanities-based approach, articles may refer to (and cross the boundaries between) different disciplines, including Jewish Studies, Israel Studies, Cinema Studies, Media Studies, Political Science, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Religious Studies, and Art History. Showcasing a diversity of ideas and methodologies is of crucial importance to the journal’s editors and readers, seen as the catalyst for a multifaceted and nuanced conversation on the constituents of “Jewish film and new media.”

Articles should be 8,000-10,000 words in length, prepared according to the Chicago Manual of Style. For open submissions, please follow the manuscript upload procedure detailed on the journal’s website at:
