Call for Contributions: The Jewish Virtual Library

The Jewish Virtual Library (JVL), a project of the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise, invites scholars to contribute articles to our growing online encyclopedia of Jewish and Israeli history, politics, culture, and religion. Since 1997, the JVL has served students, educators, researchers, journalists, and the general public worldwide, and we are pleased to extend an invitation to the scholarly community to help expand its content.

What We Are Seeking

We welcome submissions in either of two forms:

  • Academic papers, whether analytical, interpretive, or research-based
  • Encyclopedia-style entries that offer clear, authoritative, and accessible overviews of a person, event, movement, institution, place, or concept

Both published and unpublished work will be considered. If your article has previously appeared elsewhere, please confirm that you hold the rights necessary to share it with us and let us know where it was originally published.

Topics

Any topic related to Jewish or Israeli history is welcome for consideration.. This includes, but is not limited to, ancient and medieval Jewish history, Jewish communities around the world, the Holocaust, Zionism and the history of the State of Israel, Jewish thought and religious life, and the arts and cultural life of the Jewish people.

Submission Guidelines

  • Documentation: Submissions should include endnotes and/or a bibliography. Where possible, sources should include working hyperlinks so that readers can consult them directly.
  • Clarity: Because our audience includes both specialists and general readers, we encourage clear prose and the explanation of specialized terms.
  • Accuracy: Contributions should be carefully fact-checked and grounded in reliable, verifiable sources.
  • Format: Please submit your article as a Word document or PDF, along with a brief author biography.

How to Submit

Please send your article, or a short proposal describing your intended submission, to Or Shaked (orshaked@JewishVirtualLibrary.org). Submissions will be reviewed by JVL editorial staff, and we will be in touch regarding next steps, including any editorial suggestions and publication details.
